next generation dishwasher model

Mom's Rule # 493 Put your dishes in the sink and I will wash them.
Mom's Rule # 494 Leave them on the table and you will wash them.
Our cabin was built without a dishwasher and we have decided to try living without one for 365 days before we make the decision of whether we will invest in buying one. Frequent breaking of Rule #494 has allowed me to spend time working on a bit more hand quilting. Oh the joys of being the rule maker!

finishing will set you free...

A quick finish of a little doll quilt...
prompted me to pull from it's slumber a Block of the Month that was begun nearly a decade ago... I have caught up to the month of May and will work on each set of blocks in the months to come. Surely in each thirty days I can find time to keep up with the two blocks in each packet...right? And while unpacking boxes I found this early piece of my hand quilting, also nearly a decade old with only one small area left not quilted. How busy life must have become that this small three inch area was never finished. There's no time like the present...

A sneak peak

Tucked under the eaves, a few of my favorite quilt books...
This one found it's way to my nightstand this week and...
I spent nights falling asleep thinking about this sweet little quilt.
Left over pink and muslin from a past project and a stolen piece of binding from a quilt in waiting...
the only thing standing between a top and a finished doll quilt ...
is time! Buyer Beware: There are no patterns in the book shown above, but the majority of the doll quilts shown could be re-created by hand or machine by most quilters.

After twelve years of debate....

and trying to convince my husband that life would be sweeter without television....he decided to try it for a month... which lead to no television last summer.... which carried into keeping the television off last winter ...and a year later we've decided to donate the television to charity. People stare at me like I have six heads when I tell them that we don't have television in our home. My children play outside rain or shine, have hobbies both indoors and out, and love to read and be read to. I wouldn't trade the last year for anything.

Grandma Nussbaum's Quilt

She was not my grandma and I have absolutely no clue who Grandma Nussbaum was...
but this is the quilt that she made for Jeanne...
my bid was the highest when the auction on ebay ended...yippee! I had planned on giving it to a little girl for her doll bed...
but it still has not found it's way off my sewing table.
