I first saw this tiny salt and pepper shaker set in an antique shop
the week before Mother's Day.
When my husband went back to the shop on his own looking to buy
them as a surprise gift, he was unable to find them in the shop.
I have passed by the shop numerous times since then,
and each time I approached the shop hoping they
would be open so that I could by them for myself, they were....
CLOSED....CLOSED....CLOSED!
I have driven by dozens of times on different days of the week
and different times of the days and thought for sure they
couldn't be still sitting on the shelf.
Yesterday as I approached the shop I thought, "How perfect this little
golden set would be to send to a sweet friend."
And to my surprise the shop was OPEN!
I will enjoy them sitting on my shelf while I wait for the perfect
time to send them along as a surprise,
but they were never meant to be mine.
NEW FRIENDS AND OLD FRIENDS
Make new friends, but keep the old;
Those are silver, these are gold.
New-made friendships, like new wine,
Age will mellow and refine.
Friendships that have stood the test -
Time and change - are surely best;
Brow may wrinkle, hair grow gray,
Friendship never knows decay.
For 'mid old friends, tried and true,
Once more we our youth renew.
But old friends, alas! may die,
New friends must their place supply.
Cherish friendship in your breast-
New is good, but old is best;
Make new friends, but keep the old;
Those are silver, these are gold.

Those are so sweet! And I love the poem too. Reminds me of the camp song we used to sing with some of the lines of this poem.
I love your poem, it's true, you need to hold a true friend and be open for new ones!, I try to be in that way at least, the tiny salt and pepper shaker set are lovely and sooooo cute!
not sure I could let them go!
they are just so perfect but like you I would give away to the right person and you must have a friend you feel is the right person to own those.
